Police: Body found along bike path is victim of homicide

Police say they’re investigating the discovery of a man’s dead body along a bike path as a homicide. 

A bicyclist found a man’s dead body near a bike path along the Mississippi River on Monday, June 11, 2012.

Police got the 911 call about the discovery just after 3 p.m.

The bicyclist found the body next to the bike path between the Centennial and Crescent bridges. 

Police said they are treating it as a suspicious death.

An autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday morning.  After reviewing the autopsy results, Rock Island Police said they are treating the investigation as a homicide.  The coroner’s office was working to identify the victim and the exact cause of death.
