The Iowa Department on Aging wants to honor Iowans who are 100 years old or older at the annual Centenarian Honors Celebration in October.

So, the search is on to find the centenarians.

If you, or someone you know, is an Iowa who will be 100 years of age or older by the end of October 2012, they’d like to hear from you.   The annual celebration formerly honored only those new to the registry.

“Per capita, Iowa ranks third in the nation in the number of centenarians,” said Iowa Department on Aging Director Donna Harvey.   According to the U.S. Census, there are 846 centenarians in Iowa.

The 2012 Centenarian Honors Celebration is planned for October 23, 2012 in Des Moines.  Newly registered centenarians will receive a certificate signed by the governor and presented by the governor and lieutenant governor.
