The Little and Junior Miss Iowa contestants spent the day with the children at the Davenport Salvation Army.  The kids participated in field day games including balloon races, ice breaker games and enjoyed Popsicles together.

Earlier this week, the contestants donated dresses to the girls that live at the Salvation Army.    The girls then were able to make crowns, put make up on and get “glammed up.”

“Then I got to look in the mirror and I thought I looked beautiful.”  That was Quaniya Jamelleniya’s reaction after she saw her new reflection.  For Quaniya, the red dress she was given is her new favorite.

“This is my most special dress because I never had a dress that long.  When I walk it’s like a wedding dress because it drags on the ground behind me,” she says as she adds that she plans to début the dress at church on Sunday.

Little Miss Iowa, Ally Wichman says the event has helped her appreciate how fortunate she is but at the end of the day, they are all just kids. “We all play, we all eat, we all sleep; we are all the same,” Ally says.

The Little and Junior Miss Iowa Pageant will be held this Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the Isle of Capri in Bettendorf.   Followed by the final night and crowning of Miss Iowa 2012 at the Adler Theater in Davenport.
