Memorial Day Weekend is known for marking the beginning of pool season and many kicked off the weekend enjoying the sun and cool water.  Most public pools opened their doors today including White Water Junction in Rock Island.

Our area is expected to see record temperatures for the holiday weekend and one thing to remember is sun screen.  Experts recommend sun screen products with SPF 30 or greater - and reapplying every few hours.

A family of four spending the entire day in the sun should use two full good size containers of sun screen.  That is about a shot glass worth per person every few hours.

According to the FDA, the only sunscreen that can claim to prevent skin cancer are ones that are SPF 15 or greater and that offer UVB and UVA protection.
