A spokesman for Arby’s restaurants issued an apology after a teen reportedly found a worker’s fingertip in a roast beef sandwich.

The worker reportedly cut her finger on the meat slicer.  Ryan Hart, 14, found the severed piece of the digit when he took a bite of a sandwich he ordered through the drive-through window.

The Jackson (Michigan) Citizen Patriot reported Ryan described it as the “fingerprint portion” of a human finger that was tough to chew, so he spit it out.  Ryan said, “It was just nasty.”

The restaurant immediately stopped food production, broke down the slicer involved and cleaned and sanitized it – along with the rest of the restaurant – in accordance with health department guidelines.

USA Today reports Arby’s spokesman John Gray said the company has contacted its restaurants nationwide to “reinforce training and safety protocols.”

Other media reports quote Gray calling it an “isolated and unfortunate accident.”
