Vandals pop tires on 40 cars on Sterling streets

Sterling is launching a new crime prevention push after a recent rash of crimes in the city.

Police say vandals punctured tires on about 40 vehicles in one night in Sterling, Illinois.

The vandalism was discovered just before 1 a.m. Monday, May 14, 2012 when police were called to the 800 block of Second Avenue.  A resident there reported hearing loud gushes of air in the area.

When officers searched the area, they discovered about 40 vehicles with punctured tires.

All of the vandalized vehicles were parked on the streets.

The area where the vandalism happened is between LeFevre Road on the north, Fifth Street on the south, Third Avenue on the east and Avenue H on the west.
