It is a chilly and windy spring day, but at Modern Woodmen Park in Davenport, it feels like summer.

The Quad City River Bandits begin their 2012 season today against the Kane County Cougars. Opening Day will kick off with a parade celebrating the 2011 Midwest League Champions. The parade starts at 5 p.m. and will wind its way from the ballpark to River Drive where it will turn west, then south on Marquette Street, and east on Biederbecke Drive, before it ends back at Modern Woodmen Park in time for the first pitch at 7 p.m. Several streets will close at 4:45 p.m. to make way for the parade.

A special guest is throwing out the first pitch this year. Shelby Harris, of Rock Island, recently celebrated his 111th birthday and is now the oldest living man in the United States. You can watch News 8's Pauli Mayfield's story on Shelby, by clicking the link below:

The Quad City River Bandits also play the Kane County Cougars on Friday, April 6th and Saturday, April 7th. The first pitch for both games is at 7 p.m.
