One man killed in early morning fire in East Moline

Crews were battling a fire early Friday morning, April 20.

EAST MOLINE. Illinois -- A man and a dog were killed in an early morning house fire in East Moline near the intersection of 30th Avenue and Kennedy Drive.

According to the East Moline Fire Department, the fire broke out around 4 a.m.

The victim - whose name is not being released at this time - was found near the front entrance. Fire fighters say he was apparently trying to escape the fire.

There was heavy smoke inside the residence when firefighters arrived and they were able to pull the victim out right before the roof collapsed. Lifesaving efforts were performed on the man, but to no avail. Firefighters found the deceased dog later.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
