MACOMB, Illinois — A highway east of Macomb was shut down due to a semi rollover.

US 136 was shut down to traffic between Adair, Illinois and Table Grove Illinois in McDonough County, according to a statement from the Illinois State Police.  That is about a five-mile stretch of road.

Police said the driver was headed westbound on US 136 when he lost control of the semi.  The semi went off the roadway on the north side and rolled onto its side.  It came to rest on a ditch and across both lanes of traffic.

“The crash blocked the road for several hours while recovery crews worked to remove the wreckage,” said the Illinois State Police statement.

The driver was taken to a Peoria hospital via helicopter.

The roadway was reopened to traffic around 3 p.m., according to Illinois State Police.
