We may be just one year away from passenger rail returning to the Quad Cities.

On Thursday, December 14th, Moline's Director of Planning and Development, Ray Forsythe, gave an update on the project when he appeared live on WQAD News 8's Good Morning Quad Cities.

He gave viewers a live sneak peek at The Q, the multi-modal station in downtown Moline that Forsythe says will soon be the place where people take a passenger rail train to and from Chicago.

"The state`s negotiating with Iowa Interstate Railroad who's the host railroad for the passenger rail, finishing the environmental assessment, doing the design for the tracks, working on the use of Iowa Interstate Railroad," he explained. "We're hoping that they'll get all of that approved in the spring, start construction, and have passenger rail at the end of next year or early 2019."

Forsythe said The Q is the first big step in the passenger rail project. Click here to see what else will be at The Q, which is scheduled to open in January 2018.
