BURLINGTON, Iowa -- Two officers at the Des Moines County jail have been injured in a reported assault that took place over the weekend.

According to the Des Moines County Sheriff's Office, officers from the Burlington and West Burlington Police Departments were called to the Des Moines County Correctional Center just after 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 10th, where officials say a correctional officer was pinned down in the maximum security area and was being assaulted by three inmates.

Police say the correctional officer was eventually pulled out of the cell by other officers and was taken to Great River Medical Center, where he was admitted for injuries. A second officer injured in the attack was also taken to GRMC.

Police say the correctional staff were searching the maximum security area after receiving reports of inmates making homemade "hooch." Officers were attempting to evacuate the area after locating the mixture in one of the inmate's cells when two inmates, Earl Riley Booth-Harris, 24, and Jorge Luis Sanders-Galvez, 23, "brutally attacked" the officer. Police say a third inmate, Bobby Joe Morris, 26, helped in the assault by blocking other staff from entering the area.

According to reports, Booth-Harris and Sanders-Galvez were temporarily moved to the Iowa State Penitentiary in Ft. Madison, IA, and Morris was taken to the Oakdale Classification Center in Oakdale, IA.

Police say Booth-Harris was recently convicted of 1st degree murder for the murder of Deonte Carter. Sanders-Galvez was recently convicted of 1st degree murder for the murder of Burlington teen Kedarie Johnson. Both were awaiting sentencing.

Morris was in prison for ongoing criminal conduct and two counts of 2nd degree robbery.

The incident is being investigated by the Division of Criminal Investigation and the Des Moines County Sheriff's Office.
