Two separate semi incidents tie up traffic on I-80 this morning

Two separate crashes tied up traffic on Interstate 80 early Tuesday morning, October 10th.

Traffic has now reopened, but earlier Tuesday morning, October 10th, two separate wrecks tied up traffic on Interstate 80 in Scott County.

A semi was reportedly on fire overnight in the westbound lanes of I-80 near Northwest Boulevard.  It happened at mile marker 292, where the off ramp is. According to the Davenport Police Department, parts of I-80 were either shut down or detoured for about three hours.

About five miles east of that scene, near the Wisconsin Avenue overpass, another semi had reportedly rolled over on westbound I-80.

The crashes caused I-80 westbound to be closed for several hours. Davenport police confirmed around 5:30 a.m. that both directions of traffic had reopened.

As of 4:30 a.m., Ashley Lewis told News 8 she had been sitting on westbound I-80 near the incident for two hours.

"I’m behind a semi so I’m not sure what is going on, and I certainly hope everyone is okay, but it’s getting a bit frustrating," she said.

Around the same time Blake Dowell said, "I take Wisconsin Avenue which is the overpass right after the wreck and could see some of the accident. There is a semi laying over on its side, facing the wrong way across both westbound lanes."

The crashes are still under investigation. There were no injuries reported.
