Update: I-80 has reopened.
Earlier: LECLAIRE, Iowa — Westbound traffic on Interstate 80 is blocked due to a crash, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation.
Westbound drivers were being rerouted off of I-80 and onto Illinois Route 84 at Hampton, Illinois. Eastbound traffic was unaffected.
“One lane of traffic will be opened as soon as the debris is cleared,” read the police statement.
There were no reported injuries.
Iowa DOT officials say the accident that forced the west-bound lanes of Interstate 80 over the Mississippi River to close for much of Friday afternoon involved a semi-trailer carrying animal byproducts that spilled onto the highway. The lanes were still closed as of 3:30 p.m. as crews were clearing off debris.
