ROCK ISLAND, Illinois — A Rock Island High School student was hit by a car near the school Thursday morning, March 2. An ambulance was on scene around 8:45 a.m.
Eastbound 25th Avenue from 15th Street to 17th Street was blocked off until shortly before 11 a.m.
Police say the student was crossing the street in a crosswalk when she was hit. The 18-year-old student suffered a serious leg injury.
Rock Island Police Cheif Jeff VenHuizen told WQAD News 8 that they had spoken with someone and charges were pending.
A WQAD viewer reported that they called 911 when they saw the driver take off.
