Rock Island woman working to keep kids’ feet warm

Rock Island woman working to keep kids feet warm for Christmas

ROCK ISLAND, Illinois - It's a gift to warm your feet.

"You may have shoes on but socks is what keeps your feet warm," said Sharon Hayslett, creator of "All God's Children Shall Have Socks."

It started 11 years ago when Ms. Hayslett noticed children without socks on.

"The first thing I do is look at a person's feet, to see if they got socks on," said Hayslett.

It's grown into a non-profit called "All God's Children Shall Have Socks."

Last year, Hayslett was able to give out 5,000 pairs.

"Our main goal was to furnish socks, now it has grown into hats and gloves and mittens," said Hayslett.

Ms. Hayslett packed up her car with holiday bags to head to her first stop, Skip-A-Long in Rock Island.

"When she comes, she has girl socks and boy socks and they're all different sizes," said Pat Allison, Skip-A-Long Rock Island Campus Director.

It's the little gifts inside her Santa bag that had the kids smiling from ear to ear.

"It's a joy just to be able to help somebody and this is what the lord wants us to do, is to help our neighbor," said Hayslett.

Ms. Hayslett works to provide to as many places as she can.

"I always said I wanted to be like Mother Teresa, to help somebody and that is my greatest joy," said Hayslett.
