Molotov cocktail thrower sentenced to five years in prison

The crime was investigated by the bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms as well as Davenport police and fire.

DAVENPORT — A man who started a car on fire with a Molotov cocktail was sentenced to five years in federal prison in U.S. District Court on Wednesday, Dec. 14.

Theodore Cooke, 48, pleaded guilty to felon in possession of an unregistered firearm in August, 2016 in connection with the incident. According to court records, Cooke carried a Molotov cocktail –  a crude incendiary device typically consisting of a bottle filled with flammable liquid – to a house where he believed his girlfriend might be. When she refused to leave the house, Cooke lit the Molotov cocktail and threw it at a parked vehicle, starting it on fire. No one was injured during the incident.

Cooke has two prior felony convictions, one for 1st degree burglary and one for 2nd degree burglary. He also has prior convictions for assault with injury, simple assault, cruelty to animals and assault.
