Bustos meets with Family Resources in Moline

Family Resources is asking people to contact their state lawmakers and tell them to pass a budget that includes funding for these services.

MOLINE, Illinois — In just three weeks, Illinois will once again be without any sort of budget and the uncertainty is taking a toll on the state's social service agencies.

On Saturday, Dec. 10, congresswoman Cheri Bustos visited Family Resources in Moline to hear how the budget crisis is impacting local families. The president of Family Resources says the current stopgap budget did not include money to support survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.

One of those survivors spoke at the event, saying the services are essential.

"Those are the survivors that we think about, we worry about. And as she said, without our services, she would still be living in a very traumatic, violent environment," said Mary Macumber Schmidt, Family Resources president.
