FRANKLIN COUNTY, Mo. (KMOV) — A UPS driver is credited with the rescue of a woman who allegedly had been beaten and held captive in her home by her husband over a 15-hour period.
Franklin County Sheriff’s Department Sergeant T.J. Wild told News 4, “He made a huge difference.”
According to court documents, the abuse began Monday night in the couple’s home near Robertsville. The woman was prevented from leaving or using the phone. Court records say the husband beat her, put a gun to her head and threatened to kill her. He allegedly dragged her back into the house by her hair when she tried to run away.
Neighbors were shocked to hear what happened.
“Well it’s horrible, it scares me because if he’d do that to his wife, what would he do to other neighbors,” said Endalene Young.
According to court records, the couple’s 3-year-old child was locked in his room with no food or water during the ordeal.
Investigators say a UPS driver came to the house Tuesday morning after being called to pick up a package, and as the driver took it from the woman at the front door, she wrote on it, “contact 911.”
The driver left the home and called authorities. Deputies arrested 33-year old James Jordan.
Jordan is charged with domestic assault, sodomy, felonious restraint, unlawful use of a weapon and endangering the welfare of a child. His bond is set at $100,000 cash only.
