ComEd customers will see higher rates in 2017

The rate hike takes effect January 1, 2017.

ILLINOIS — While the new energy bill in Illinois means Ameren Customers will see a $2 drop in their monthly bills, ComEd customers can expect a higher bill. Their coverage area includes parts of Whiteside, Henry, Lee, Bureau, Carroll and Jo Daviess counties.

The Illinois Commerce Commission approved a $127 million rate increase for 2017, which will add about $2 a month to the average monthly electric bill.

The company has raised rates over the last five years to help pay for upgrading the area's power grid and installing smart meters.

The rate hike takes effect January 1, 2017.
