Are you ready for our first bout of wintry weather?

We're tracking an area of low pressure that is expected to bring some rain and snow to our region on Sunday. It should begin around sunrise Sunday morning with a mix of rain and snow. The precipitation will work from south to north as the morning goes on. Areas south of Interstate 80 will see more in the way of a wintry mix versus spots north of the Quad Cities where mostly snow is expected.

Since ground-surface temperatures are slightly above freezing, some of the snow will melt upon impact with the ground. Highway overpasses and bridges will get slick first, then roadways and sidewalks.

Some slushy accumulations are expected areawide with the potential for an inch or two from the Quad Cities, points northward.

Snow will end by 6pm Sunday evening. Another chance of wintry weather comes back Tuesday and Wednesday of next week.
