DES MOINES, Iowa — An escapee from an Iowa work release facility has been apprehended.

David Michael Evans had been at the Fort Des Moines Work Release Facility for just over a month when he was placed on escape status for not returning from work, according to a statement from the Iowa Department of Corrections.

The 30-year-old man was serving a 40-year sentence for assault while participating in felony and prohibited drug-related acts, the statement said.  He started his sentence on January 18, 2013 and was placed in the work-release program on October 12, 2016.

On November 19, Evans did not return from his job.  About 11 days later, on Wednesday, November 30, he was taken into custody and was held in the Polk County Jail, according to Fred Scaletta with the Department of Corrections.
