BURLINGTON, Iowa — Three men have been arrested in connection with a shooting at a home in central Burlington, according to a statement from the Burlington Police Department.
The house in the 400 block of South Garfield Street was shot at multiple times on Tuesday, November 22, 2016, and “the assailants fled,” according to the police statement. Shortly after, police say a man, 35-year-old James Griffin from Chicago, showed up at a local hospital with a gunshot wound to the upper body; he was airlifted to another hospital for treatment.
That was the second shooting that happened that day. The first was a deadly drive-by shooting near the intersection of Aetna and Gunnison Streets around 9:30 a.m. The victim was identified Wednesday as Breion I. Combs, 28, of Chicago.
An investigation into the South Garfield Street shooting led police to make the following arrests: Holland Joseph Ewing, age 27, from Chicago; Dontis A. Davis, age 27, from Matteson; and Gilbert Lee Ellis, age 29, from Chicago. All three men were charged with intimidation with a dangerous weapon and held on $10,000 bond.
Another shooting happened the day before, around 11:20 p.m. on Monday, November 21, in the 2100 block of Williams Street. A man, 23-year-old Donald Hunt, had been shot in the lower body. He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Police previously said they identified a suspect in that case.
