BLUE GRASS, Iowa -- A man facing charges in connection with the death of a construction worker has pleaded guilty.
Sebon Reese, now age 19, was driving along U.S. 61 when he hit and killed Willie N. Holley, according to previous reports. Holley was from Rock Island.
It was September 1, 2016 when the crash happened, and according to deputies on scene, Reese was driving at a high rate of speed when he tried to pass other vehicles on the left in the median. Reese reportedly lost control of the vehicle, crossed the eastbound lanes and struck Holley on the side of the road.
Both Reese and his one-year-old sister were injured in the crash. Both were taken to the hospital for treatment. Reese was taken into custody about a week after the crash, on September 7.
Online court records show that Reese was charged with homicide by vehicle, eluding, and child endangerment.
On Tuesday, November 22, Reese pleaded guilty to homicide by vehicle-reckless driving and eluding, according to a report by the QC Times.
His sentencing has been set for January 5, 2017, online court records show. QC Times reported that at his time of sentencing, the child endangerment charge will be dropped.
