MASON CITY, Iowa (AP) — Autopsy reports have been released on two people whose bodies were found inside a Mason City home last week.
Officers sent to check on a report of a shooting around 2:30 a.m. Thursday, 17, found the bodies of 37-year-old Caleb Christensen and 54-year-old Melinda Kavars. A suspect was arrested 15 minutes later after a brief foot chase.
Police say the autopsies showed Christensen died from several “sharp-force” injuries and Kavars died from a gunshot wound to her neck and chest.
The suspect, 30-year-old Peter Veal, of Lake Mills, remains jailed pending $1 million bail. He’s charged with two counts of murder.
