Original post:

BURLINGTON, Iowa — All schools in the Burlington Community School District were on lockdown Tuesday, November 22, 2016.

Around 11:40 a.m., the district posted on its Facebook page that the lockdown was due to “community safety” and included the entire district.

Afternoon Pre-K classes were cancelled. Morning Pre-K students were allowed to be picked up by parents, or they could stay at the building until the lockdown was over and be taken home by bus.

The district advised parents to contact their child’s school for information.

The lockdown notice came the same morning as a deadly shooting that happened on South Gunnison Street.  WQAD News 8 has reached out to police, but no calls have been returned at time of publishing.

There is no word whether there is a connection between the two.
