City of Moline buys new trucks to prepare for upcoming winter season

The City of Moline has ordered seven new Ford F-650 trucks to help with snow removal for the upcoming winter season.

MOLINE, Illinois-- The City of Moline has ordered seven new Ford F-650 trucks to help with snow removal for the upcoming winter season.

These are to replace trucks as old as 10 years old and will run completely off natural gas, which is something Municipal Services General Manager, Rodd Schulty says the city has never had before.

The trucks will be used to pretreat main streets and plow areas the city deems to be more dangerous during the winter season. They will also be used to move the 7,000 tons of salt currently in storage.

Normally, the city needs about 5,000 tons of salt every winter season, but because of last year's mild winter, they only needed to buy 2,000 tons of salt.

Public Works officials also want to remind drivers to give these trucks plenty of space on the road when they are out at work, to avoid any future accidents.
