ROCK ISLAND, Illinois — Mike Thoms has announced he is running for Mayor of Rock Island.

The announcement came at 8 a.m. Monday, November 21, 2016, after he gathered enough petition signatures.  He needed only 473, but he got more than 1,400.

“When I announced I was exploring the possibility of running I was amazed at the level of support I received,” Thoms said. “Rock Islanders are eager for someone to shake things up and I am honored that so many people believe that I am the man for the job.”

Thoms said he planned to reach out to as many residents and businesses as he could before April.

“It is my number one priority to listen to and understand the needs of the people of Rock Island,” he added.

Thoms has lived in Rock Island his entire life.  He is the former Chief Operating Officer of Thoms-Proestler and former President and Chief Executive Officer of Renaissance Rock Island.
