Fire erupts at collision repair shop in Moline

A large electrical panel was the source of a fire that caused about $35,000 in damages to a body repair shop.

MOLINE, Illinois -- A large electrical panel was the source of a fire that caused about $35,000 in damages to a body repair shop.

The fire, at Speed and Floyds on 41st Street, "was found in and around a large electrical panel" and was spreading to adjoining walls when firefighters arrived, according to a statement from Battalion Chief Todd Allen.  It happened around 2:20 p.m. on Sunday, November 20, 2016.

Smoke was coming out of the roof and door openings of the one-story, 30-by-80 sq. ft. building, the statement said.  Firefighters quickly entered to control the fire.  MidAmerican Energy shut off all exterior power sources so the electrical panel could be removed. There were no injuries reported.

Damage was estimated to be $25,000 for the structure and $10,000 for all the contents.

An employee on Monday morning said they were still without power and were waiting on an insurance follow-up.

The business will still see customers, but they are hoping to be fully back up and running in about a week.
