Gas line break in LeClaire closes busy road

The gas line break happened around 8:45 a.m.

Update:

The LeClaire Chief of Police, Shane Themas confirmed that around 12:15 p.m. the leak had been stopped and all traffic had resumed as normal.

Original post:

LECLAIRE, Iowa -- A construction accident along Stagecoach Road in LeClaire ruptured a 2-inch gas line, forcing the closure of the road and limiting access to the Slagle grocery store and other businesses north of U.S. 67 the morning of Thursday, Nov. 17.

Police said gas is still leaking, but crews from MidAmerican Energy are on the scene and there is no danger to nearby residents. The road will remain closed for some time, however. In addition, police responded to a minor accident in the area, further complicating the response.

Repairs are expected to take some time, as portions of the road must be torn up to access the broken line, police said.

They are asking non-residents to avoid the area and people to use 8th Street to access the strip mall.
