ROCK ISLAND, Illinois — A handful of Rock Island residents asked questions and tried their hand in simulation training during the Rock Island Police Department's community meeting on police use of force. Officers talked to the public for about an hour on department protocols, situations where deadly force may be used, and reasons why just watching a video of a situation may not give you the full story.
After the meeting, the public was given an opportunity to use the department's training equipment to see how they'd react during a simulation situation that escalates into dangerous territory, such as pulling over a reckless driver who draws a gun.
The community meeting is part of the new monthly interactive meetings put on by the Rock Island Police Department to bridge the gap between officers and residents, and offer conversation on how to better protect and inform the community.
