Man shot in Rock Island dies from injuries

One of the two people found injured after a report of gunfire in Rock Island has died.

ROCK ISLAND, Illinois -- One of the two people found injured after a report of gunfire in Rock Island has died.

Officers found two injured people, 37-year-old Richard B. Smith Jr. and a 16-year-old, in the area of 12th Street and 10th Avenue after gunshots was reported, according to a statement for the Rock Island Police Department. It was around 5:15 p.m., Monday, November 14, 2016 when police were called to the scene.

Smith "had sustained an apparent gunshot wound" and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, where he later died of his injuries.

The 16-year-old, who sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, was taken to a nearby hospital, was treated and released.
