Davenport man sentenced for faking address on gun purchase documents

DAVENPORT — A 26-year-old Davenport man was sentenced to 18 months in prison for making false statements during the purchase of a firearm in federal court on Monday, Nov. 14.

Algerron L. Goldsmith pleaded guilty to three counts of making a false statement during a gun purchase made on June 29, 2016. In the plea agreement, Goldsmith admitted listing a false address on forms necessary to purchase the handguns he bought.

During the investigation into the false statements on the forms, it was also discovered Goldsmith had used a fraudulent Social Security document in order to obtain rent rebate money in 2014 and 2015. He was ordered to pay back the reimbursement amount of $1,998 as part of the plea.

In addition to the prison term, Goldsmith was sentenced to three years supervised release and ordered to pay a $300 fine to the Crime Victim’s Fund.
