East Moline alderman announces mayoral run

A man who has served as a city alderman for the last 12 years is vying to be mayor.

EAST MOLINE, Illinois -- A man who has served as a city alderman for the last 12 years is vying to be mayor.

Gary Westbrook, an East Moline native and 7th Ward Alderman, announced that he will run for the city's top spot.  The announcement came Monday, November 14, 2016.

Westbrook is a Deere Harvester retiree and says he wants to improve city efficiency.

"Developing on community housing and focusing on our downtown area I think is the right approach to get East Moline back where it should be," Westbrook said.

When the announcement came, John Thodos held the city's mayoral seat. His term expires April 30, 2017.

The primary for the East Moline Mayoral Race is February 28, 2017.
