WARREN, Illinois — Three drivers died in a wreck on a rural road in the northern part of the state.

A driver, 67-year-old Carol J. Anderson, was headed eastbound on East Stagecoach Trail when she sideswiped a vehicle headed westbound, according to a statement from the Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Office.

The statement said that Anderson then struck a second vehicle, also heading westbound.  It all happened just after 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 10, 2016, about a half-mile east of North Canyon Park Road.

The drivers of both of the westbound vehicles, 43-year-old Tracey L. Schmitz from Warren and 61-year-old Susan J. Upmann, from Apple River, Illinois, were pronounced dead at the scene, according to authorities.

Police said Anderson was airlifted to a hospital, but was later pronounced dead.

A two-year-old boy who was also involved in the crash suffered minor injuries; he was airlifted to the hospital for treatment.  There was no indication of which vehicle he was riding in, or if there were any other passengers involved.

The crash remained under investigation by the Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Office and the Illinois State Police Accident Reconstruction Team.
