378,461 pounds of food collected for 31st annual Student Hunger Drive

That food that stays right in Quad City area. River Bend Foodbank serves 22 counties in Iowa and Illinois.

DAVENPORT, Iowa - The numbers are in.

For six weeks, student from 16 area high schools have been collecting food to help those in need.

On Thursday, November 10, 2016 the total number of pounds of food collected were revealed.  Students collected 378,461 pounds of food.

That food that stays right in Quad City area. River Bend Foodbank serves 22 counties in Iowa and Illinois.

While the number of pounds collected this year might be less than last year, River Bend Foodbank's  executive director says this year they wanted students to focus on the quality of food, not quantity.

"We really emphasized on the kids this year to focus not on food the weighs the most, but what they would be most likely to eat," said Mike Miller.

Awards were given out to schools based on their division.

Divison A: (enrollment 1251+)

1st Place- Bettendorf High School, 40 pounds per student collecting

2nd Place- United Township High School, 26 pounds per student

Division B: (enrollment 300-1250)

1st Place- Alleman High School, 140 pounds per student

2nd Place- Assumption High School, 48 pounds per student

Division C: (enrollment 25-299)

1st Place- Rivermont Collegiate High School, 284 pounds per student

2nd Place- Morning Star Academy, 103 pounds per student

Most Improved- Davenport West High School

Most Pounds Collected: Bettendorf High School, 62,392 pounds of food

Mission Challenge: Orion High School, given to the school determined to have lived the mission of the Student Hunger Drive.
