Some Iowa students stage walking to protest Trump victory

Donald Trump Holds Rally In Wilkes-Barre, PA

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Officials say students at several Des Moines-area public high schools have staged walkouts to protest Donald Trump’s election victory.

At Valley High School in West Des Moines, Vice Principal David Maxwell said Wednesday that students were given about 15 minutes to protest before they had to return to class. Maxwell says some did return, some didn’t.

The Des Moines school district noted in a news release that the majority of the district students are minorities and said the presidential campaign rhetoric raised “concerns and divisions” among the students, their friends and families. The district says it won’t “stand in the way of our students peacefully expressing their concerns.”

No incidents of violence have been reported.
