DAVENPORT, Iowa — The tables at Tommy's Café in downtown Davenport fill up with regulars every day. The restaurant has a down-home vibe that attracts a diverse group of people, one might say, is representative of America.

On the day after the United States elected Donald J. Trump to be its 45th President, Wednesday, November 9, 2016 the breakfast crowd was buzzing.

"They can’t talk about the issues, they 'gotta talk about each other’s dirt," said Deano Phelps, a resident of Davenport, of the 2016 presidential election.

Phelps has been coming to Tommy's Café for about 26 years and he voted for Mr. Trump.

"I'm not happy about it because I don't like Trump," said Nancy Jordan, a resident of Milan, Illinois, who sat across the table from Phelps the morning after the election.

Jordan voted for Hillary Clinton in the election, but that doesn't keep her from sitting down over a cup of coffee with Phelps. The two are friends and have been meeting at Tommy's over the past 20 years or so.

"This is my table and he keeps taking it," laughed Jordan, adding that Tommy's Café is how she met Phelps. "Now, whoever gets here save the table for us."

Phelps says he voted for Mr. Trump because of the republican nominee's business sense.

"Maybe he can make a change, especially for the deficit," said Phelps.

On the other side of the table, Jordan doesn't like Trump, but she doesn't like the democratic nominee for whom she voted, either.

"You know, I had two choices," said Jordan, as she weighed her hands up and down, "I'm not a Trump fan, never have been, never will be."

Hillary Clinton won six counties across the battleground state of Iowa, including Scott County.
