DES MOINES, Iowa– With Election day just a day and a half away, Donald Trump is opening up his lead over Hillary Clinton in the battleground state of Iowa.

A new Des Moines Register poll, released last night, shows Trump as the top choice for 46% of Iowans. 39% of likely voters say they’re backing Clinton.

A win in Iowa would be Trump’s first in the state; he narrowly lost the Iowa Caucus to Ted Cruz back in February. Clinton edged out Bernie Sanders in the state’s Democratic Caucus battle.

Iowa has six electoral votes, and is part of the Trump campaign’s strategy to reach 270 electoral votes on Election Day.

In both 2008 and 2012, Iowa turned blue, with President Barack Obama winning by significant margins in both elections.
