Area food drive aims to collect more than 3,000 meals

You can still drop donations off at the Werner Restoration offices in Colona.

SILVIS, Illinois — Thanksgiving is just a few weeks away and volunteers are making sure every family has food on the table. Volunteers from Werner Restoration stood outside the Silvis Hy-Vee on Saturday, Nov. 5, collecting donations for the 100 Meals in A Day food drive.

Shoppers dropped off food items and cash, all  of which goes to the River Bend Food Bank to help area families this holiday season.

"We really want families to focus on what's important at the holidays, and that's being with each other and not worrying about where they're gonna get their next meal from," said Jaclyn Thompson with Werner Restoration.

Last year's drive brought in enough food for more than 3,000 meals and volunteers are hoping to beat that number this year.
