Pay It Forward: Sally Stangl

MaryCrest Senior Campus nurse Sally Stangl knows being a nurse isn’t always easy.

DAVENPORT, Iowa - MaryCrest Senior Campus nurse Sally Stangl knows being a nurse isn't always easy.

"I come in at about 8 and stay until the day is done," Stangl said. "Sometimes that's 3, sometimes that's 7 or 8 at night."

At 8 a.m., Stangl will greet the seniors at breakfast, putting a smile on their faces.

"It's a good time to see the residents," she said. "You see how they feel, how their day's going to be. You can kind of tell what's going on."

On Tuesday, November 1, 2016 though, Stangl was a bit unprepared to receive a Pay It Forward from WQAD News 8 and Ascentra Credit Union, for doing good things in the community. MaryCrest Senior Campus resident Mary Heiar nominated Stangl for the award.

Stangl says residents like Heiar are basically family to her now, and she loves that the residents keep her busy every single day.

"We had a big party for Halloween. A lot of the staff brought their kids in and trick or treated with them. We're kind of one big family here."

The senior campus is at the site of the old MaryCrest College, which closed in 2002.
