DUBUQUE, Iowa -
Battleground Iowa is heating up less than a week before the presidential election.
That's why Hillary Clinton's running mate, Sen. Tim Kaine, (D) Virginia, isn't taking anything for granted in the final days of the race.
He warned a crowd of about 300 at Loras College on Wednesday, November 2, 2016, that polls have a way of evening out.
"Let's go win this race," he said.
Iowa remains in play just six days before the election.
Democrats are focusing on areas like Dubuque County, where support is crucial for the Clinton-Kaine ticket.
"The earlier people vote, the better," said Gina Rozman, a Clinton supporter at the rally. "They can get out sooner and help us over the final weekend."
After a long campaign cycle, it's all about motivating voters in the final push.
Since Iowa's early voting is lagging behind 2012 totals, this crowd is ready for action.
"It's our responsibility to get out and vote," said Clinton supporter Pat Zaber.
Sen. Kaine plays up the underdog role, helping to ward off voter fatigue with a burst of energy.
"We can't take anything for granted," he concluded.
For a campaign that never seemed to end, the finish line is in sight.
