DAVENPORT, Iowa -- Sen. Chuck Grassley, (R) Iowa, doesn't expect any quick conclusions about the latest Hillary Clinton emails.
"We don't know," he said, after a stop at Scott County Republican Headquarters on November 1, 2016. "We won't know for a long period of time."
But just days before the presidential election, Grassley is asking FBI Director James Comey for more information by Friday, November 4.
"What information did he get that led him to the announcement he made?" Grassley asked.
Democrats like Rep. Cheri Bustos, (D) Illinois, agree that the FBI owes the American public more of an explanation behind the probe.
"Since this bombshell is out there, let's add clarity and figure out exactly what's in those emails, if anything," she said.
As chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Grassley is a key player.
He's questioning any links with Clinton confidant Huma Abedin and her estranged husband, Anthony Weiner.
"It's not saying that Comey did the wrong thing," Grassley continued. "It's saying that we need to know more of the context."
But Bustos says the FBI is playing politics at the wrong time.
She says the agency is violating protocol by investigating less than 60 days before the election.
"He (Comey) did this 11 days before an election," she continued. "Let's put a stop to it. Let's add some clarity to it and hopefully move on."
Moving on, however, will take some time.
Win or lose, Grassley says the email controversy won't disappear any time soon.
"The letter we got was awfully short," he concluded. "Congress is entitled to more information."
