DAVENPORT, Iowa - One man was injured and another was taken into custody after a confrontation led to a shooting overnight.
The incident happened in the 1300 block of Division Street around 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 1, 2016.
According to the affidavit, 26-year-old Byron Blackwell was in his home when he "was made aware" that somebody may be breaking into his truck parked out in an alley. Blackwell then "armed himself with a shotgun" and confronted the man who was inside his vehicle.
"Blackwell pointed the gun at the subject, at which time the subject ran from the vehicle," read the affidavit. "Blackwell fired one round at the subject as he was running away, and also fired one round at an unknown vehicle leaving the area."
The shot that was fired hit the running man in the back, according to the affidavit. The man was then taken to a nearby hospital and underwent emergency surgery for life-threatening injuries. On Tuesday, November 2, he was listed in stable condition.
Neighbors said they were surprised to hear gunshots Tuesday morning because violence usually doesn't happen in their neighborhood.
"I've been watching since 4:30 this morning, it's not like this over here.... I'm afraid to even let the dogs out," says Dawn Castel, long time resident.
Davenport Police said they charged Blackwell with willful injury-causing serious injury and going armed with intent. Online jail records show that Blackwell was booked into the Scott County Jail at 7:57 a.m.
Detectives remained on scene throughout the morning Tuesday, and were following up on the situation.
