Moline police give parents a few safety suggestions before Halloween night

Streets all over the Quad City area will be packed with kids tonight, to show off their best costumes for Halloween.

MOLINE, Illinois-- Streets all over the Quad City area will be packed with kids tonight, to show off their best costumes for Halloween.

But before they go, the Moline Police Department wants to remind parents of a few traffic safety measures.

"Kids, and also parents, they need to realize that even if the first car sees you, that doesn't mean the second car doesn't. There are so many decorations on houses, kids running around, it's hard sometimes for a driver to focus on every single thing," says Jon Leach of the Moline Police Department.

He also warned homeowners to keep their yards clear of debris, or anything else that might trip the trick-or-treaters.

"We would tell people to make sure their yards are clear of any debris, any hoses or stuff that kids would trip over. Make sure that their house is well lit. If you have any pets, or animals that may be dangerous, keep those locked up," says Leach.

Quad City trick-or-treaters already got a head start on the holiday over the weekend with the Boo at the Zoo event on Saturday, October 29 and again on Sunday, October 30, during the trick or treating event at SouthPark Mall.
