SILVIS, Illinois — A few hours before cheering on the Chicago Cubs in Game 4 of the World Series, friends at Crosstown Square, a place for independent senior living, met for a Saturday afternoon Halloween party.
"We got to go all the way tonight," said Betty Esterdahl, a resident of Crosstown Square.
Residents enjoyed live music and had a Cubs win on their mind.
"Oh my gosh, everybody would be up late," said Betty Freeman, sitting next to her husband of 68-years, Carl Freeman.
"They'll be up late, but soon to bed," said Carl Freeman, who says he's been a fan of the Cubs since before he was born.
"My mother used to listen to the Cubs when I was a youngster. She was playing the radio and listening to the Cubs when I was in the womb so I’ve been a cubs fan longer than I’ve been alive…. 87 years," said Carl Freeman.
The last time the Cubs were in the World Series was in 1945 and the last time they won the World Series was in 1908.
"I wasn't even a gleam in anybody's eye in 1908. My mom would have been 8 and my mom would have been 10," laughed Carl Freeman.
"It's something I've been waiting on for years and years and years, it's about time, and I think they're going to do it," said Cyril White, 95, who lives with his wife at Crosstown Square.
Over a dozen residents gathered in the social room at Crosstown Square on Saturday night to watch game four. Drinks and snacks were served to residents.
