Erie Schools closed Friday to clear out mold

Students of Erie Schools will not attend classes on Friday, Oct. 28 due to poor air quality.

ERIE, Illinois — Students of Erie Schools will not attend classes on Friday, Oct. 28 due to poor air quality.

A release from Erie High School Principal Tim McConnell says that the school district received preliminary test results from their most recent campus-wide air quality tests that show there are areas several classrooms at the elementary and middle school with a high concentration of non-toxic mold.

"We have been given specific areas that need cleaning, and we will be taking the day on Friday to clean and make the air quality better for all of our students. We feel that by taking the day off on Friday to clean, the air will be cleaner on Monday to begin the new week. We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause, but we are trying to focus on the air quality of our campus," reads McConnell's statement.

Once the full report has been completed, the school plans to post the report online.
