BETTENDORF, Iowa - Many people like to enjoy a nice day outside throughout Bettendorf, just like Chelsea Schroeder and her kids who frequent the city's parks.
"We do we love them were here a couple times a week at this park," said Schroeder.
A new addition could soon be seen at the parks. The city is looking to buy an ice rink.
"I think it's great, I have two young kids, they've never been ice skating before but I think my daughter would love it, especially," said Schroeder.
What's now an empty lot in Middle Park could soon be a place for people to skate.
"That's the hope, it's gonna depend on usage, it's built for permanency but were gonna try this for this season if we can get it installed," said City Administrator Decker Ploehn.
The funding would come from the councils' winter events budget and Ploehn said they're getting all of the equipment for a steal.
"$75,000 all included, that includes the skates, that includes the Zamboni, it includes all the piping, the boards, the computers to run it, the programs," said Ploehn.
Currently people only have places like Middle Park Lagoon to skate but only if it freezes and the possibility of having ice skating as a winter activity had residents excited.
"Anything that you can do to bring even more people outside to use the resources that are available, I'm all for it," said Kevin Worrall.
