Driver killed in rollover crash off I-280 near Rock Island

A driver was killed after being thrown from the vehicle in a rollover crash, according to a statement from the Illinois State Police Department.

ROCK ISLAND, Illinois — A driver was killed after being thrown from the vehicle in a rollover crash, according to a statement from the Illinois State Police Department.

Exit 11A off of Interstate 280 was closed for about an hour after the crash, according to the police statement. Police said it was right around 5:55 a.m., Friday, October 21, 2016 when a 2004 Green Mercury Rainier left the roadway and rolled, causing the driver to be thrown.  The driver died from injuries, police said.

Police said there were no other cars involved in the crash.

The driver’s name is not being released at this time.
