The man accused of hitting and killing a construction worker on U.S. Highway 61 has pleaded not guilty.

BLUE GRASS, Iowa -- The man accused of hitting and killing a construction worker on U.S. Highway 61 has pleaded not guilty.

Sebon Reese, now age 19, was charged with homicide by vehicle and reckless driving and eluding, according to previous reports.  He was also wanted out of Scott County on a probation violation.

Online court records show that on Wednesday, October 19, Reese a not guilty plea was entered.

The crash happened back in early September 2016 near Coonhunter's Road between Davenport and Blue Grass.

Scott County Sheriff Dennis Conard previously said that the Reese had been driving at a high rate of speed on U.S. 61 when it happened.  He had reportedly tried to pass other vehicles on the left in the median, lost control, crossed the east-bound lanes and struck 62-year-old Willie N. Holley from Rock Island.

Reese and his one-year-old sister who was also in the car were both taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries.

On Wednesday, September 7, nearly one week after the crash, Reese was taken into custody and was booked into the Rock Island County Jail on $125,000 bond.
