BURLINGTON, Iowa — Police have issued an arrest warrant for Timothy A. Jones in connection with the shooting of John P. Auwaerter Monday afternoon at a home in Burlington.

According to police, Jones shot Auwaerter in the upper body inside a home in the 500 block of South Central Avenue a little before 4 p.m. Monday. Auwaerter sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to an area hospital for treatment. His current condition was not immediately available.

Police have not arrested Jones and are pursuing leads in order to locate him. BURLINGTON, Iowa — A man sustained a serious gunshot wound at a home in central Burlington.

The man had gone into a home in the 500 block of South Central Avenue and was “confronted by a male individual displaying a handgun,” according to a statement from the Burlington Police Department. It happened sometime before 4 p.m. on Monday, October 17, 2016.

Investigators said that one shot was fired at the man, and he was struck in the upper body.  Although the gunshot was fired at the South Central Avenue home, police said the injured man was found less than a half-mile away at South 9th and Cedar Streets shortly after.

The man’s injury was considered life-threatening, and he was taken to an area hospital for treatment, according to the statement.

Detectives were working to find out more information.
